Who we are

The St George Bicycle User Group (BUG) is a non-profit, incorporated, community based association promoting recreational cycling within the Local Government Areas of Bayside Council and Georges River Council

The BUG is affiliated with Cycling NSW and our members are governed by the St George Bicycle User Group Constitution.

For the BUG Consitution see Resources.

Our objective is to

  • foster and encourage non-competitive cycling as a sport, recreation and means of transport

  • to organise and participate in events involving cycling

  • to promote and advocate cycling at all levels of government as a sport, recreation and means of transport

  • to promote and support healthy and charitable activities within the local area with the agreement of members by resolution at a general meeting

Regular rides are organised for a mixture of experience, fitness level, age, gender and bikes including Road, Hybrid and MTB.

We warmly welcome new riders with a ‘try before you buy’ approach with the overarching objective to have fun and enjoy the company of others. Membership of the BUG is open to all and not restricted to residents of the Rockdale, Kogarah and Hurstville Local Government Areas. In fact, we have many members from all over Sydney.

The BUG is managed on behalf of the members through elected Office Bearers of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Ride Coordinator. The Treasurer is also the BUG Public Officer. Each are nominated and elected at the Annual General Meeting, and officer bearers may not hold the same office for more than three consecutive years.

Office Bearers are responsible for ensuring the legal and ethical integrity of the BUG and will be expected to ensure:

  • the organisation is run in line with its stated ‘Objectives’

  • internal controls are robust and secure

  • financial practices, operations and reporting are in accordance with relevant legal requirements and optimised wherever possible
